What we collect and why
Draft for review. This page describes what the new service does today and is not yet an approved policy; organisation details and contact addresses will be confirmed before launch.
Who we are
Think Smart is run by Think Smarter Group Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (number 09634793). We are responsible for the personal data described here, as its controller under UK data protection law, and are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (reference ZB453805). You can reach us about anything on this page through the contact form or at support@thinksmart.careers.
Playing as a guest
We record the answers you choose, your first-answer scores, your enjoyment ratings and anything you write about your reasoning, linked to a random identifier held in a cookie in your browser (our cookies page lists every cookie we set). We do not know who you are. Clearing your cookies ends the link.
With an account
We store your email address and a hashed password, and attach your activity to the account so it survives across browsers and experiences. Each time you sign in we record the IP address and browser used, so we can keep your account secure. We use your email address to sign you in and to reset your password, not for marketing.
Asking about an answer
After you answer a scenario you can ask questions about it. The answers come from the professional's own explanations, and nothing you ask leaves Think Smart. We keep a record of the questions asked so we can improve the explanations.
Partner experiences
If you arrive through a partner's experience, that is recorded against the activities you do there. Partners receive aggregate figures about engagement, never your name, your answers or your individual results.
Contact form
Messages sent through the contact form, with your name, email address, organisation and IP address, are stored and emailed to the people who handle enquiries. We use them only to reply to you and to stop abuse of the form.
Why we are allowed to use it
We use account details to provide the service you signed up for. Everything else, including guest activity, sign-in records, questions you ask and contact form messages, we use because we have a legitimate interest in running, securing and improving Think Smart, and we only use it in ways you would reasonably expect.
Who else handles your data
We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it for marketing. Service providers process it on our behalf to run the service: our hosting provider and our email delivery provider. Some of them may process data outside the UK, with safeguards required by UK law. PostHog, our analytics provider, stores its data in the EU. It records what happens on the site, such as activities started and finished, answers submitted, sign-ins and errors, so we can see how Think Smart is used and fix problems. It is sent from our servers rather than your browser, so it sets no cookies. It is linked to your account number if you are signed in, or to the random guest identifier above if you are not; if you then create an account or sign in, the two are joined. It never includes your email address or anything you type. We would disclose personal data to others only where the law requires it, or to a new owner if Think Smart is sold, who would be bound by this notice.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and activity until you ask us to delete them, and enquiries for as long as we need them to reply. Retention periods for guest activity and inactive accounts will be published here before launch.
Young people
Think Smart is used by school and college students. Anyone can play as a guest without giving personal details. If you are under 13, please ask a parent or carer before you create an account.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete what we hold about you, or object to how we use it, through the contact form or by emailing support@thinksmart.careers. We will reply within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes to this notice
When what we collect or who handles it changes, we update this page before the change takes effect. Material changes will be shown here.
